Genocide and ethnic erasure claims

Claims have been made, many by Uyghur activists, that genocide is occurring in Xinjiang at the behest of government policy. Many of these claims relate to:

  • Claims of genocide
  • Claims regarding sterilisation and / or forced UID insertion
  • Influx of 'Han' Chinese into ethnic minority areas, especially Xinjiang
  • Forced marriages between Han and ethnic minorities to 'dilute' ethnic identity
  • Prevention of traditional ethnic practices, especially religion

Claims regarding sterilisation and / or forced IUD insertion

Influx of 'Han' Chinese into ethnic minority areas, especially Xinjiang

Forced marriages between Han and ethnic minorities to 'dilute' ethnic identity

The narrative of ethnic erasure through marriage attempts to create a sense that government policy seeks to promote inter ethnic marriage as a means to dilute or remove ethnic identity, thus reducing the possible conflict between minorities and 'Han' Chinese and suppressing separatism.

Most pieces that makes such claims use data and anecdote from which many conclusions may be drawn. Only those conclusions that support ethnic or cultural erasure are entertained and those that conclude otherwise are dismissed or not entertained.
